Post Meeting the Liveworm Team: The Moogy Roo Series.

Post 6 / Posted March 3rd2020

This Blog is a retrospective look back on my self publishing journey which took just on 12 months from the day I decided to publish my first story, mid January 2019 to finally collecting my first 534 copies from customs at Brisbane Wharf late January 2020.

Date in History: 15th April 2019

I have received quote and design agreement from Sharon below.

Hi DG I have attached our Design quote which is broken into two sections

1. the illustrations concept development (character and sample of illustration styles) 2. an estimate for the first book artwork including 12 illustrations (1 on each page) and page layout of artwork. This may increase slightly depending on how many additional page illustrations and what you would like the cover to look like.

If you would like to proceed please sign and return a scanned signed copy of the quote.

Once the character is established and illustration style selected, the designer may require further information on what illustrations are required for each page. I have also attached one designers initial character concept ideas for your feedback - he would like to know if you can provide any further information on what the character looks like to you? This particular designer is also happy to continue with the book after his hours at Liveworm if he is chosen.

I will also require further information from you including your address and contact details.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards Sharon Searle

It is important to note that there is no standardised rate for an illustrator. Fees and charges are based on the size and scope of each individual project. What is important, is to do your research, be confident in the style and body of work of your illustrator before engaging, be clear of your own vision, then ask questions, there could even be room to negotiate, but understand the design agreement you are signing, because any changes outside the agreement, unless absolutely critical to the story will incur additional costs, and your budget can quickly get out of hand. Illustrators have the amazing creative talent to bring stories and characters to life, so most importantly have trust in your illustrator.

DESIGN AGREEMENT

If you have the time, I have attached this link to the T&C's of my design agreement. Worthy of a read as it comprehensively explains the rights, obligations and protections for both parties.

Do I agree? Find out next blog.

I will be posting twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursdays and would love your feedback, comments and questions along the way. Thanks for your support.
