The final Draft Pages: The Moogy Roo Series.

This Blog is a retrospective look back on my self publishing journey which took just on 12 months from the day I decided to publish my first story, mid January 2019 to finally collecting my first 534 copies from customs at Brisbane Wharf late January 2020.

Date in History 31st May 2019

Receiving the final draft illustrations to check for approval before colouring process.

Hi Darren

Please find attached final pages for your feedback.

Spot the differences above? Apart from Moogy Roo increasing in size to better show she is slightly older than Jack, you will also notice the change to Jack's expression from fear to happy acknowledgment that he is willing to play along. This is where you can see the subtle talents of a good illustrator with Jan slightly tilting Jack's head with the addition of strokes just above his cap to show movement. Perhaps the most critical change to this scene was to the speech bubble. I felt the two speech bubbles on the left would have confused the reader because we naturally start reading from left to right, so the sentence would not have made sense even though the bubble actually starts from the right above Moog Roo. Changing to one speech bubble on the right fixes this.

Spot the differences above? Initially Moogy Roo wasn't included in this scene, however we thought best to include to show her growing excitement in the build to her prank.

Spot the differences above? We decided to remove and create an entirely new scene for the sentence "Because the Giggly goo is about to appear and..." which will make sense in the new scene created below. This also created extra blank space on the page so we zoomed in on Jack's face (Enlarging illustrations) this also highlighted for the reader, Jack's focused concentration of trying to imagine the Giggly Goo as Moogy Roo describes.

Spot the differences above? This is the new scene created on the right. Having it's own page, this scene further helps build anticipation of what's about to appear.

The big reveal when the Giggly Goo "Really Moogy Roo" tickles Jack.
